alot of ethnic groups in this country are deterred from calling themselves british because of the BNP
from what ive seen it comes like its "uncool" to call your self british or english
or even to support england in the world cup

i know what ur saying still, coz i've seen ppl like that.
a lot of ppl would prefer to refer to their ethnic background as opposed to their british nationality.

I have quite a few mates who's parents are bangladeshi. They were all born and raised in england, but still dont consider themselves to be english. Some are actually quite anti-english. and theres always bare grafitti around my school saying "blangla's rule" and stuff like that.

When you are an immigrant you should try and fit in as best as you can.
If your so opposed to the way people live then why come here at all.
I mean its just common sense.

Good Thread and I know what you mean.
Is there anyone Asian on her who could give us explain their perception of this topic.
There seems to be a lot of media around black people celebrating being Black British, and there are some great Black British people in the public eye who we all rate and admire.
But there is not the same emphasis on Muslims.
And there is not really are people Asian who get on prime time TV etc.
Alias?

because ignorant racists are in control of the TV and media. At the moment muslims are used as some sort of scape goat.

I don't go in for nationalism at all. I'm proud of who I am, not whatever little piece of island I currently call home, or the achievements of others who might have lived somewhere relatively nearby before.
And I categorically despise the views represented by the BNP/NF, etc.
