reasons why grime can't sell

I'm not hatin here, i just wanna start a discussion on music sales. This is a new era in music where even big american artists are struggling to shift units. We live in the UK which is a much smaller country with a much smaller economy. To add to that, it is a predominantly indy/rock based music fan group, and urban music is not fully respected (by snobby wanks).

So lets say there are around 50-100k grime fans (probably not even). And only 10% actually buy albums. You ain't gonna be making a lot of dough...The only way dizz and wiley went mainstream is because they catered to the pop/dance markets, which have big sales compared to grime(check basshunter).

so are we all doomed to yo-yo in between grime and dance? It certainly seems to be the trend, often affecting the mcs career for the worse (kano), which they dont recover from.

so what could possibly be the future of grime, if not in the dance/electro markets?

Maybe a couple more years & the scene will be at a healthier stage without needing to sound like pop/dance/electro.

im just saying, each artist will basically have to develop their own unique strategy, as there is no market to eat from

one might be big in the states, one might be big just here, one may make his money from doing rock music based shit etc
