Good Read and I agree with it all. I'm not even trying to draw for the racist card but boy....they want black youth to do something positive and not get caught up in the street or gangs but they shut down the few black role models we have.

"It’s not that I don’t like this new stream of indie music, but I also want the sort of music I enjoy to be recognised. I want to see people who grew up in the same area as me appearing on the BBC as themselves, not having been watered down."

"Sway, one of our best hip-hop artists was given an award in America. He was named Best UK Act 2006 at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. But he hasn’t won in the UK! The industry needs to step up."

shame the article werent a bit longer

I agree totally, the Brit Awards are an absolute joke with no variety whatsoever. All these actegories, I swear the music is so similar it doesn't even mean anything

Those awards are effectively just elaborate advertising campaigns

Just because your black doesnt mean your entitled to a brit award. or anything.

Thats what the article suggested.

Philippa, 16, is a student living in Barking. ??? Acts from her area??

Well you never know OT Crew might win a brit next year.

Theres loads of genres that don't get any exposure.

Urban sections in this country are a waste of time anyway.

They always have to use american acts, or throw craig david in even when he hasn't had any stuff out for years (untill recent).

When them american acts win, some of them cant even be bothered to do the thank you message via video.

I think the more important thing is the role models thing. The thing with the role models is that if you consider Grime MCs to be role models and they chat about weaponry/violence, the kids who just follow like sheep (there's too many sheep in this country) will think that's the way forward and go down that path.

However, the idea of being a positive role model to the kids is thought to be one that would alienate the artist from the 'road' fans and therefore they don't bother.

Saying that though, Bashy's a bit different to the rest. Although he's always been different.

thats real talk. At the end of the day I dont understand why they even call it the Brit Awards when American acts recieve a fair amount of the awards anyway.

I just hope this motivates black or "urban" uk acts.
