Another genre of music where this frequently happens (not so much amongst un knowns) is hip hop. 50 built a lot of his career on bringing it to his competitors that he didnt necesarily REALY have beef with. Look at Joe Budden/Saigon, theyre both a more in the spotlight.It's a way of showing how flexing ur lyrical muscle.

Look at the recent beefs between Doogz/Wiley and Rinse/Jeeday.
None of them wanted to lose so put their hardest bars down; result is good, new content and we're talkin about them hence hype/sales go up (unless u lose but even then ur not necesarily out the game).

I never thought Jeeday was capable of coming with those bars to b honest, both of dem came hard tho and had only heard a couple of Jeedays trax, and isn't it a bit of a 'coincidence' that Doogz' (and wiley's to a lesser extent) album was released within weeks of his beef? Thats the exact marketing tool 50 used (not that anyone else hasnt) when his albums came out.
