View Full Version : Lil Wayne's next album ...

is apparently going to be an entirely rock album. What's everyone saying about that?

I'm all for diversity, KanYe made a massive move with 808s and that was one of the best albums of last year, I just don't seem to be feeling any of Wayne's rock stuff though.

Rah, I didn't know that. This track "Prom Queen" is? I just found it as any single still

yeah this is the first single from it, it apparently leaked mad early lol

LOL Nothing leaks. KanYe school of promotion.

KanYe and Wayne put out albums that sold sick last year, and on both a lot of the tracks "leaked", although Wayne had more I hadn't heard than I expected.

Wow, this didn't strike me as a single. You can do a LOT with the video though, set up an entire prom etc. Plus, girls are gonna have "I wanna be Lil Wayne's prom queen" all over their MSN

I dunno though, I heard he was going straight onto Carter 4 so I was expecting that tbh

Wilder
25th January '09, 12:21 PM
yeah your right i just found out its being released as the first single from the rock thing next week, thats in the states though so im guessing he has already made a video, and youve really thought abt this lol

Not even, that was all off the top of my head lol, I read a lot of about the music industry though, so when I see a new album the first thing I do is breakdown the promotion etc. so I can judge how successful it will be.

LOL @ this, some Wiley movements ...

Aside from this beautiful little leak, Lil Wayne’s people are stepping the fuck away from this rock album, saying it has nothing to do with the previous Carters even though Wayne had originally said that the other Carter III was gonna be subtitled The Rebirth.

25th January '09, 12:39 PM
yh heard this song with a few other songs off the album a cuple days ago... its different but prom queen kinda grew on me... prom queen the single will be available on itunes on tuesday so i the leak is most likely a marketing ploy rather than a leak..

dunno what its off tho..most likely carter 3 the rebirth but it could be off Kurt CoWayne which is meant 2 b another rock album.. dont really seee this as an openin single but obviously there must be a market for this kinda music

I swear, apart from some boog tracks on mixtapes in amongst actual Hip Hop, there wasn't much warning for this?

just some more info..

Despite early reports of Lil Wayne re-releasing Tha Carter III with all new songs; Wayne's rep has now told MTV that his upcoming release has nothing to do with his multi-platinum 2008 release or any of his previous hip hop efforts.
April 7 marks the day that Lil Wayne will unleash his latest effort. A rock album entitled Rebirth.
According the MTV, the first single, "Prom Queen," will debut on the internet after a live stream of his concert in San Diego on January 27. Fans wanting to view the stream can visit MySpace.com to watch.

Them guys are dumb though, they're judging it as standard rock. Lil Wayne does his own thing, in the same way KanYe did, it's not meant to be on par with everyone else, it's his own take and style on it.

It's not solely autotune. Go listen to it. It's emotional music for a start, most of it has a very strong message.

Also, the drums are crazy creative. You can hear the Portishead throwbacks, and considering the whole album is created from about 6 drum sounds, the drums are never boring.

Also, it's not just autotune, it's also distortion. Regardless still, he took it to a different level from people like Jim Jones, Ron Browz and Lil Wayne.

The music side of the album is also awesome, some of the instrumentation and string work was fucking awesome.

If you listened to 808s and all you took from it was that he was using autotune, you got lost and clearly ignored the lyrics.

The whole package was beyond awesome, and it was heartfelt music, music he cared about, which in the current climate is rare for a major album release. There were some good messages in there for the younger and older listener alike, and it reached a whole new audience for KanYe.

He said himself he wasn't the best singer, so anyone who still went into the album evaluating his performance was lot, it was clear it wasn't about that.

A lot of people can't take music for what it is any more, they have to compare it to something, and that's a very bad thing.

And that take is...WASTE!
Not in the slightest, music the artist actually cares about >>>

Them guys in the States have been releasing advanced copies and their multiple versions of their album onto the net themselves for years.

I just don't have time to listen to lyrics where the "singers" voice is jarrin' me, you're not gonna listen to someone who sings deep lyrics but their voice is jarrin', most of the songs were about his life, love and all of that shit, which if I wanted to listen to i'd go and buy some RnB shit.

If he continues to make albums like this, then I won't bother listening to him anymore his last 3 albums were all sick...why change if he's getting ratings, he might think he's varying and expanding to a new audience...but it's shit compared to previous efforts alie?

KanYe had it down to artform and was publicly doing it himself. Also, no clean copies, just the full tracks. A couple got changed but otherwise he was on point. Freest promotion ever, and to be honest, aside from KanYe and Lil Wayne, I've never seen people sit on a forum hammering refresh and fiending for download links.

To be honest, KanYe is a weird one for me, because I relate to a scary amount of stuff. A lot of College Dropout was relevant to my life, then 2 albums not so, and then this, massively relevant.

If the voice jars on you then that's fair enough, can't argue with that, and I can also see why you might change your view if you did like the last 3 albums.

Having said that, a lot of the pre-major KanYe was better, if less impressive technically in my opinion purely because he was passionate, and that's the same reason I like this album.

I honestly wouldn't call the album shit at all, imo it's better than Ne-Yo's album which was a lot, and also better than the Danity Kane album. Pretty much the only 2 R&B albums I even remember from last year.

I dunno, I liked it, I can see why you wouldn't I guess.

I don't really listen to R&B that you hear alot nowadays, i prefer the old school R&B tunes tbh. So I cant comment on the Ne-Yo & Danity Kane albums you mentioned, it's probably more to do with me not liking alot of the mainstream/R&B tracks that your hear alot today tbh.

Do you produce at all? The Danity Kane album was one of the best produced of last year, completely fucked, mostly Danja productions. Sick album in fact, even beyond the production.

I actually would've liked the tune if there wasn't autotune on his voice.

Album has potential imo. Lil Waynes strength is his presence on a tune and making it his rather than actual lyricism or flow, which he lacks at times.

Cos of that, if the music on the CD is good, Wayne should be just complimenting it which could make for a good album.

...Heartless was easily the best tune on the album
