I think i read from someone that there's a device that you can plug into the back of your mixer & record onto without the need to have a computer there.
Was I dreaming this up or does such a thing exist?

This.
I'd imagine it's just an mp3 player with inputs that can come directly from the outs of your mixer.

A multi-track recorder - old school technology, I'm surprised none of you came up with it sooner, shit revolutionised the world of music.

I dunno, not even sure they exist but I'd imagine they do. There was a thing that plugged directly into an iPod that allowed you to record to iPod though. Might be worth a search on google if you own an iPod

You can record on to a ipod if you install linux on it as i've done it before. The quality was pretty poor though. I just seem to remember someone (Alfie maybe) on here mentioning a device.

Dunno tbh I imagine there's a few ways of doing it I just don't know them. Might be worth a look on DJ Mag forums or something, somewhere a lot of guys with the same problem will be.
