We all know Bashy smahed it with that song ad with the remix, but what part of the song do you think stands out the most and is most relevant to the scene. I think the line:

'Look we aint hooligons, just young and talented nubians'.

Because people have this preception that we are hooligons i think that is the main reason why grime is getting held back.

I had money on this topic being all about race, but its actually a very good point Merkeist Guy if you mean everyone in the scene is viewed that way.

Yes but that is the impression that grime heads give, hiding their faces under hoods and rolling in large groups. It's not like people think in that way for no reason, well some people do...but some people have proper reason for having a bad impression of black kids.

Not trying to stir up any racial row.

But I got a BNP leaflet threw my door today, and it had a picture of a group of black youths hanging around a car and a guy standing in the car pointing a gun at the camera.

I think that is the perception they (most grime acts) give out, and also to be honest the perception they are trying to push so I guess it all makes sense.

I more associate the word hooligan with English white guys to be honest.

@ G.K.

I'm gonna carry on what you said. Why do you think we are seen as angered youts? did society 'make' us that way? or is the anger innate and because of that we give that impression in society? or is deeper than that?

@ H.i.j

Did you really have money that my topic would be about race, whys that?
Anyway do you think that for a 'grime mc' to get further in the scene they need to have an image as a 'street-tug'? If so, why?

Ok lets keep it on Bashy for a minute, i was reading an interview by him in a magazine and it was basically talking about what he gets up to in a day. They said something about having 'violent lyrical clashes' in the past with the likes of Wiley and Ghetts. We all know he is on a postive vibe now, but in te past do you think he had to go that way to further himself in the scene?

@ Brukfoot

Now now now that is a very big GENERALISATION off a whole group of people! I mean not every black yout wears hoods and roles in 'large packs'. Oh and even if they did, isn't that what youths do; socialise and that? Hmmmmmmmm. Well i think people have this fear because there is a big MISUNDERSTANDING!!! If gonna carry on on that poit i made about a misunderstanding; what i have noticed is the people who these so called people are scared of is all just in there head as they have some sort off disorted view of black-youts.

@ FrankD

Blud,

I got a leaflet through my door time-back but before i even clocked it was by them dickheads they were far gone. I told my mum that if i caught up with them i would off wetted them with a sharp brick!!!!!! Ok so a group of black boys is helding a gun to a camera, read this: http://www.ligali.org/article.php?id=1762 Then go print that of and post it through peoples doors.

I agree with ya about associated hooliganlism with pub-guys!!!

.

Because you do generally talk about race quite a lot, its a known fact. But regardless, its a good topic and one that deserves to be discussed.

It depends. Ghetto admits to 'coming off the road' to do music so it works both ways. A lot of fans respect an MC who uses road talk if they actually back it up with road like moves.

But people read the media and the media depicts anyone who listens to the music or who does the music as a street rat guy who will snatch a handbag at first sight, but not everyone is like that.

^^^^^^^^^^^^REAL TALK!!!!!!!

Bruv,

I think someone like me is needed on thos forum because i give it a balance. Alie? A

Anyway even if Ghetts was still on road that is just ONE WAY off getting P's...I mean the type off music he does should be left at that the media shouldn't bring it up if he gets caught up with something in his personal life. I mean if you look at all the POWERFUL families in the world you'll know that they all done some sort of 'crime' to get there P's.
Infact why don't the fuckign media put the spotlight on people like PAUL MCCARTNY, LEWIS HAMILTON, etc....cus they make MILLIONS and put it all in another account overseas to avoid tax. Now if you ask me thats on the same path as tax evasion/money laundring. In my eyes that much more worse then a working-class artist doing a bit off dirt on road. Hmmmmm!!

Ok ppl, found this interesting article that i think is relevant to this thread: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7198508.stm it bascially says hw the home secretary wouldn't be SAFE walking through LONDON. Hmmmmmm!! So let me get this right Bashy makes a song to try and solve some of the SOLUTIONS that affect the black community. Yet the one PERSON who has control over a budget of BILLIONS to 'protect' the people in this country wouldn't feel safe walking on roadwhen she has the POWER to fix the majorti of the problems.

Bashy is not Malcolm X.
