The Grime scene focuses more on the reputations and affiliations an individual has more than the actual quality of their music.

Thoughts / opinions?

yeah but for bring in to stay "in" they need to put in work and release quality songs.
its not just a case of going on logans or westwoods show with there mate. if they dont continue to make good music reguly they will be forgotten

Yeah true but people paid attention because of who bought them in.

Reputations hold a lot of weight in Grime. A general decline in the quality of someone's music is often overshadowed by the reputation of what once was.

Having links brings you into the spotlight without a doubt, but its your own potential that keeps you in there..

Eg: Lightning does a 1xtra on the basis of his relations with ghets.. but on the real though.. how many mans here actually rate him?

A few broke through because of talent like Devlin, Rinse & Random Impulse but yeah Grime is full of people that got where they are because of Wiley or some other older

probably true, but it works both ways

would we have heard of Devs had Dogzy & Ghetts not brought him in?

would we have heard of griminal had he not been part of the nasty family?

Now ... Think about this ... Such bring-ins just don't happen, or as much as in grime anyway, in dubstep or drum n bass and they still have an international vinyl market.

gettin ur bredrins in is common in scenes dat ave gt no managers, no1 runs the scene apart frm the artists, so they can do watever they want and bring there real life mates no matter how shit at music they are.

I reckon part of this is true, when it comes to Hype MCs.

If there is one in the guy where, every time he spits, the whole of the crew start jumping about, saying all the bars and stuff, every in the crowd gets hype as well... even if they aint even good hype bars.

when it comes to proper content though, or producers, i dont think ur statement is as clear cut as u put it.

for producers, u make ur own reputation... and ur affiliations also come through with ur reputation, i.e after u start making good tunes, good / well known mcs will want to spray on ur beats.

Definetly thinking about this today

Grime is one of the only scene's where people's judements on music is affected by the artists:

ends
colour
voice
affiliations
previous work
personal life

its called being closed minded
