but the UK thing is diffrent, I see grime as a genre still..I mean listen to..say..blak twang. That's hiphop.
then listen to..say, wiley, skepta, jammer ect.the beats diffrent, well diffrent..just listen to the drum pattern an' tings.

Like in the US, mainstream hiphop is hiphop being made on major labels, videos, huge releases ect..underground is mixtapes, 12" singles..closer to what grime is..but grime doesnt really, IMHO, have a "mainstream" like how USA have mainstream/underground.

Grime is NOT UK underground bruv. You cannot generalize all UK underground music as Grime. There are plenty UK Hip Hop underground artists that aint Grime bruv and Dance acts DnB acts... and so on.
Grime has a right to be it's own Genre now I feel but even if it didn't it still would not be the general name of everything UK underground.

Wiz
19th February '08, 01:20 PM
can you not just state the reasonable explanation on why you ate the thing?

if it was a 2 sided bet then yes...that's a reason (i.e. whoever lost the bet would have to eat the cover)
if you got paid then yes...that's a reason

it's not hard to explain yourself, but it is long to find audio of an old set i never listened to, of a date i don't know

Aych

yh lately it is i remember last month ive put a promo mix of vocals on this dutch site it got 1300 plays in 3days and people wanted 2 know where they could hear more of it so i passed on the myspaces of certain guys who im safe with and as for march i got 3 bookings so yh its a gd look at this moment in time btw i think theres much more money 2 be made for grime artists outside of the uk because from what ive been told and see is that most artists dont move wider then the uk they should expand thats what i do for certain artists in the scene they giv me music so i can show it 2 the people over here . .

Yes. Americans are lost. They can't even understand what we're saying half the time.

RAISED BY WOLVES
21st February '08, 07:20 PM
I wouldn't go so far as to say "fuck America" on the whole, but then again...I live here.

The main problem in the states is fickle fans. Fools who picked up on grime in 2 double O four when Run the Road dropped on Vice records. As I said on Dissensus, back then, you could go to some houseparty at a spot in Williamsburg (I'm gonna go ahead and guess that's like the equivalent of Shoreditch and certain hipped out parts of the east end from what my UK heads tell me) and hear Tinchy, or treddin' on thin ice, or what have you. Once The Fader and Vice magazine stopped covering it and moved on to Ghettotech, or Baltimore club, or whatever the fuck, people didn't check for it any more. Me, I still by every release I can that hits shops stateside, and any time an artist comes through, I'm there to support. But there's no street level fan base here. I watched Will and rolldeep play to a crowd of kids from the LES at a free show in the park. He was all "big up the white tee massive" which was hilarious, but people weren't really on it like that. They were all just like: "where the fuck is Juelz Santana!" and after he came out and rocked like three joints that had the park going crazy, the whole crowd dissapeared, and I saw an anxious Kano backstage with Ghetts looking shook (or maybe just dissapointed) to play to a handful of backpackers.

Moral of the story: Don't give up on the states, but understand that the majority of the fanbase in the cities that have one (SF, NY, CHItown) is not interested in how the genre progresses, but more in the moment when it was a new and exciting flash in the pan unlike anything they'd heard before. Of course there are exceptions, but they're few and far between.

Big up all my true fans stateside though, even if you spend more time on your lappy then out in the street.

One last thing....Americans can produce, but I don't want to hear one of my own try hop on mic EVER.

That's all, Apologies for the long winded post, just trying to shed a bit of light...
