shower man....as in a guy that showers people with bullets

true.
the term originated from a bunch of jamaican gangsters in the early 80's, called "the shower posse".

read about em in "born fi dead", awesome book.

ginal is a jamaican term for con man, much much much older than grime or any grime mc..man all have 1940's records with the word "ginal" in it.

has NOTHING to do with vaginas, the trim one is "a weave wearing ginal", in other words, a lying woman (which a woman in weave could, very much, be described as)

Par is golf terms I think haha.
Like if the par on a hole or whatever you call it is 3 you get par, which is even. So "It's a par" is just like "It's even" Kind of.

My theory is "it's a par" and the similar uses in the grime genre/culture was derived from the term "below par", and that term was probably taken from golf terms.

no, not really.
Just been living in Jamaica for some time, and collected reggae music since long before I even heard about grime..so I was familiar with the term ginal.

actually, grime is FULL of references and terms from jamaican music..

rave was originaly used to describe carribbean parties in the early 60s.
par - in jamaica, that's when you hang out with someone, like "mek we go par wid sean paul an di uptown yute dem"
badman.
showa (which I forgot to mention earlier, is also the nickname for JLP, jamaica labour party)
..to mention a few.

think it has to do with where grime comes from, and how carribbean people live round dem ends..

English slang and American slang both share a lot of origins from the carribbean esp Jamaica

on a seperate not it means the yanks should understand grime to a reasonable extent

wen peeps say blood/blud it mean family (normally referencing to a clse frend) but dit is now ova used

Pred
19th February '08, 12:00 AM
Blood references the blood relations between brothers. It should be a term used when talking to very close friends or of course family.

Par is a bit sketchy, as the definition isn't very clear. It's definitely not from the original Jamaican usage as it has nothing to do with how it is used today.

par (pär) pronunciation
n.

1. An amount or level considered to be average; a standard: performing up to par; did not yet feel up to par.
2. An equality of status, level, or value; equal footing: a local product on a par with the best foreign makes.
3. The established value of a monetary unit expressed in terms of a monetary unit of another country using the same metal standard.
4. The face value of a stock, bond, or other negotiable instrument: sold the bond at par.
5. Sports. The number of golf strokes considered necessary to complete a hole or course in expert play.

Half of those could be used as a pretty accurate description of the Grime's 'par' word. Pick your favourite I guess.

I'm glad someone cleared up ginal, as I didn't know that.
