:dozey: Just to think people like roni size and man dem from the garage days. had less thats on reason 4.
yet everybodys downloading vsts one after the other, and not using the presets as somebody else has....
I reckon a clever person could use just the standard fl studio and reason 4,and play around making unique sounds, and never need to download anything else.

we do complicate ourselves but i think its down to these two things. laziness and wanting to bring in new sounds. if patches, vsts and plug-ins are there to be played around with, its hard 2 ignore it. but the more software to come out will incorporate these into their software imo. back in the day when not much was available there was no reason to make a fuss, but now everyone wants to be unique, thus the increasing amount of software downloads we can get our hands on. hope that made sense

Yeah, people are trying to use too much or like, over compensating. Hmm, I cant really find the words or phrase to describe it but you get what I mean.
A mac, Logic 8, M-Audio 49, some Native Instrument AU's and some nice samples is all I really need and even then I could live without a some of them. I don't like having too much stuff cluttering my process or slowing me down.

There's an article about this in octobers computer music mag.
I think alot of it is people wanting instant results rather than learning how to use a synth properly & use it to its full potential

i done this myself, but decided to just stick to reason 4 in the end...

Yeah, so did I. I think alot of people do when starting out until they find their feet.

The only thing that stung me was a few weeks after starting out I was out for a keyboard, so went and bought some £200 (or thereabouts) Korg thing. Months down the line I realised the features were of no use to me and could of got something that done the job for about £60-70 LOL

Do agree with it. Although I do believe for most people synth programming is a stage most people will sooner or later will start to do.

If you understand synthesis in depth.
Thor >>>>>> most vsts.
Man that no how to use spiders/combinators and layer techniques effectively can replicate any sound heard.
(speakin in reason anyway)
VST's are good though.
