View Full Version : I'm sorry but, when did Skepta turn so shit?
Llelo

Man used to go nuts for them greazy bars in Meridian, and it's like he's gradually got worse and worse. He used to outshine Big H, Pablo, Bossman and Pres T, now i wouldn't say he was better or less basic than any of them (maybe pres t).
I know he don't spit road bars no more, i don't have a problem with that (even though thats what he was best at) but he's got so basic and his delivery is shit as well. he's got no aggression any more and he sounds lazy on the mic, like he wrote his bars in 10 minutes, which he proably did to be honest, cos i knonw tahts how long it would take me to write that shit he spits nowdays.
its like he slowly changed, and then today i just realised how bad he is. if i put on a recent skepta tune like King Of Grime and it was by a guy i'd never heard before i'd think he was any swag/average mc. A year and a half ago Skepta was in every man's top 5 easy, these days he don't even make my top 10 mc's to be honest.
yeh rant over, sorry bout the essay, had to get some tings off my chest (no homo). discuss.

JME has sounded a lot like that recently as well, even from before he went commercial anyway for myspace- the lead track from his album if that youtube video is correct is honestly rubbish.
Skeptas video about money on youtube as well.
And JME throwing 20 quids away like it was nothing over a hip hop beat wearing a boy better know T. All the t shirt bars...
Skepta still sounded quite hype when he jumped on the Wiley beat on Movement Documentary but I agree its not there as much anymore- but he still has it in him. I remember when I used to lock to Manic FM and he'd go there a lot and spit on his ones and spray for ages, even though quite a few bars were the same, that was better imo.

lol at the typo in your username. pissed.
and like i said, i understand he's toned down his lyrics, its not an excuse for his weak delivery, basic bars, basic rhymes and rhyme patterns.
i dunno how old u are, but if u listened to him a few years ago and to songs like Come On Man and even later ones like Fuckin Widda Team you see how much he's changed AND I DONT MEAN IN CONTENT.

12th February '08, 10:26 PM
Skepta is the most over rated MC in the Uk right now, If i hear another bar about Tshirt P i swear Im gonna kill a man.
Flow = Basic
Content = Boring
Hes just on a hype but at the rate hes not showin up at shows that will die out quick.
What I still dont get is how he could make In Da Corner and not realise the rest of his album sounds fucking wack next to it. My housemates dont even like grime (so surely should like the more "commercial" sound) and even them man know In Da Corner is Showa and the rest is gash.

To be fair, I defended it when I first heard it a lot, me and Carter had forum war over that album lol, but Ive just searched Skepta in Itunes and loads of the tunes with more plays were even on the album. Stupid, Fucking Widda Team, Fucking Widda Team Remix.
Only greatest hits is up there at the moment.

hijimi this is that skepta track
it is kinda old though still, might be from before u was following grime cos i think this only got played on a few north london stations like axe and heat and deja. maybe i cant even remember too tuff really.
has got some killer bars in it: "i dont wear NYs i dont rep New York/nah man i man live at 54, Meridian Walk" used to wheel that on the tape.
edit lol forgot to put the link in

Those bars are on "Lying to you fans" big tune.
It was still there on parts of Greatest Hits. Someone needs to stab skepta a few times. that should bring him back to the road guy and if it don't then hope he dies and they bring out an album of all his old unreleased stuff. na jokes. stop the violence.

I know the answer to this question. It's ever since he started listening to the forums.
"Ahh why does he come with the same bars he rinses them off tooo much he needs to start writing bars daily"
Out goes the quality of the lyrics, and in comes the quantity. Skepta has bare bars now.

This is what gets me. Everyone slates him, which is fair cor he is poor. But ppl still wanna try n say he beat Ghetto in the clash on Kiss?
To me, he has always had basic bars. Theres never any deep metaphors or wordplay. They were jus rave bars. N now he tryna make some P he has to water them down more for the mainstream.

Skepta's Rave bars >>>>>> Ghetto telling me his life story on Merlin beats
Anyway, I do think Skepta recently has gone bit down hill but i still think he's better then most mc's in grime, He needs better bars though, More energy bars, When i was listening to him on 1Xtra yesterday he was too basic sounding

Skepta is good for what he's meant for.
He's a rave mc and makes hype beats for raves and has dem rave bars... people expecting complicated, sophisticated lyrics from him are expecting too much.

Still nuff with all this negativity.
Recently Skeptatron has been puttin the work in and is coming with new bars n new tunes, which i think are definately better than the tunes on greatest shits!
Bodybag, Mic King n Baseball Bat are sick tunes. Hopefully Skepta will have learnt from hios mistakes n Microphone Champion will be everything that Greatest Hits wasn't.
Still sayin this hopfully it wnt be the same case n we hear all the bars 3-4months before the CDs done n when its released it will be the same old bars.

The best part of greatest hits was the bit at the of listen up where he shouts GOD FORGIVE ME IF I BUSS MY NINE twice on a live show. And that just about sums it up. Both Jme and skepta should have released their albums 2 years ago.

Its because they have made a bit of money, they are spitting about their situation at the present. Which is what all good Mc's do.
The downfall of this is that no one wants to hear about how rich they are.
We want to hear stuff that we can associate to, like being in the streets, working hard to be somebody. We havnt 'made it' like JME and Skepta so we cant associate.

Greatest Hits was big - you lot are lost.
He does seem like he's trying less recently though. I remember hearing him when he went Westwood with JME and Frisco and he kept choking, forgetting his bars, and really just wasn't on a level.
He might just be trying to do something else as an artist - which would explain him moving away from road bars. Here's hoping he sorts his shit out. I think he's still got it in him to be one of the best.

Maybe if u ever start making moves u will be able to appreciate him, but anyway this topic is not about content , it's about delivery and his delivery is lacking compared to what it used 2 be . . .
