The fight proved nothing.
Salita drew against a guy with an 8% knockout ratio. He is shit, everyone knew this.

I'm thinking Mitchell, Malignaggi v Diaz II winner or Hatton
they mentioned JMM but I doubt that'll materialise.
I'd like to see him fight Michael Katsidis. Although he's not quite a box office name, he would be able to go the distance with Khan and it would be a great fight to see.

Pavlik v Martinez close to being signed. As long as Pavlik don't pussy out again at the last minute that should be a great fight.
Khan may be jumping ship to Golden Boy promotions and fighting Paulie Malignaggi as a debut.

for news boxingscene.com is very detailed, but is worth checking out a couple of times a week (QC recommended it to me)
If you are interested in history there have been some classic fights uploaded her before. Helps to have a preference first though in regards to weight / style.
If you want to learn about the history there are some decent books.
If you want films based around real boxers
Ragin Bull
cinderella man
the hurricane
there a very good ali documentary too, but i forget the name
are all based on real fighters.

Best thing to do is just start watching as much as you can, and staying up to date with the current boxing news. I don't think an extensive knowledge of the history is a requirement for new fans but it's cool to have. Personally I was quite obssessed with boxing history for a while and read tonnes of books and articles and stuff on it for a while, but can't really be arsed for it too much anymore.
Like Jay said, boxingscene is good for current boxing, although the journalism can be quite amateurish and biased. And worldboxingvideoarchive is great for downloading fights. It's a private torrent site so you need to sign up and keep your download/upload ratio good or you'll be banned. Might be worth checking some forums like eastsideboxing or boxingscene's, but I find that the communities are largely pretty shit and full of people who have no idea what they're on about.

unfortunately british tv doesn't really give a fuck about international boxing anymore, so you mostly have to rely on streams or downloading the fight the next day. worldboxingvideoarchive is best for downloading, and i can hook you up with a good source for streams if you want
here's what we do have:
sky sports 1/sky box office - some international boxing (usually involving mayweather, pacquiao, klitschko or de la hoya), hatton, khan, some domestic boxing
itv4 - really good for domestic boxing imo
euro sports - german cards and little known american cards (horrible commentary team)
espn - friday night fights (usually good fights that don't involve big names)

Just look at that every now and then to see whats coming up and i either look on their forum for people with streams or usually just download the fight the day after so i can properly watch it whenever i want.
Their forum isnt that bad but alot of people do chat shit on it, i just look at the history one and after a while youll get a basic understanding of most important fights and the like.

I think so. It'd make Arum & Pac more susceptible to Mayweather's demands in negotiations and we've seen in the past Mayweather willing to fight an opponent coming off a loss if it makes monetary sense and gives him a nice scalp for his ledger (Zab Judah).

Clottey is a very tough opponent still... Mayweather v Mosley and Pacquiao v Clottey are both really good fight, so it's all good as long as the winners fight each other afterwards at some point.
Clottey is a lot bigger than Cotto, arguably beat him when they fought - or at least proved to be his equal, and has a very different style. He won't be knocked out either.

Khan signs with Golden Boy promotions
WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan has announced a deal with United States-based Golden Boy Promotions.
Khan, who has been promoted by Frank Warren since turning professional in 2005, has won 22 of his 23 pro fights and became a world champion last year.
But the Bolton 23-year-old is to link up with Oscar De Hoya's promotional company as he looks to crack America.
"I'm ready to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime and know Golden Boy will help me accomplish these goals," said Khan.
"I am really happy Khan Promotions is partnering with Golden Boy.
"I know that together they will be the right team to help me continue my career as an elite fighter and to expand my fan base to the United States and around the world."

This would be big if it happened.
I assumed he went with Golden Boy to 'crack' the USA, but then a fight v Hatton would help.

QC you think hopkins will go for the knock out v Jones, or play it more tactical?
I think that'll be the plan going in there, seeing as Jones is shot to bits with his prevalent weakness being his chin, and Richardson likes his fighters to be offensive when possible. But I think if he hasn't got him out of there by round 6 he'll slow down and start to fight in bursts. He kind of went for the KO against Pavlik and had him out on his feet towards the end but just didn't have the stamina to finish him.
I think it's a shit fight though tbh. If it's on the same night as Ward v Green/Bika I know which one I'll be watching.

Manny did smash Cotto but with the issues that came from the negotiations with Mayweather you can't help but wonder if Cotto has been hard done by with both of his losses.
Still he beats Josh even though he'll give him some problems

Gamboa is a monster and now that he looks a little more relaxed and in his element I think he's finally looking worthy of his "future P4P king" title. Mayweather v Mosley will be announced today or tomorrow and then they'll start promoting it next week. Can't wait for the fight - best thing that can happen in boxing outside of Mayweather-Pacquiao.
'El Canelo' the ginger Mexican will be making his American debut on the undercard.
I think Mayweather UDs Shane though. 9-3 or something. Shane doesn't like authoritative jabs and opponents with a good command of range.

I don't really care about Mayweather's unbeaten record but I just don't want the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight ruined.
Mosley would've given Floyd hell a few years ago before he moved up to 154lbs but I think this current version of Shane doesn't have the reflexes and footwork to handle Mayweather. I am interested in how Shane approaches the fight though - his trainer Nazim Richardson is a tactical genius and is the main reason for a Floyd fan to feel nervous I think.
Mosley's a bad muddafucker tho, got to rate dude. He didn't give a fuck about none of PBF's demands (unlike the diva Pacquiao) and just said get this done. If he does pull off the upset he fully deserves the money and acclaim.

Paul Spadafora v Leonard Dorin
Part 1: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4R4N0NDT
Part 2: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZCMGMHVG
Great fight that probably would've been Fight Of The Year if it weren't for Gatti-Ward also happening in '03. Spaddy went on to spend a year in pen for shooting his pregnant wife in the stomach lol (Snoopy and Maniac eat your hearts out). He's also an opponent who many feel Mayweather should have fought rather than moving up in weight to pursue the money fights.
Dorin was a great amateur who won bronze at the Olympics twice, he retired a year after the Spaddy fight after being knocked out in two rounds by Gatti.

lol i see that. chisora's a funny dude, hope they can make the williams fight now too
my summary of last night's boxing:
- frankie gavin looks weak offensively
- degale looks reckless but has a good arsenal
- mitchell looked great (albeit against mediocre opposition) but i still think katsidis will bully him
- cleverly looked great once he got into his stride and i thought the performance was a testament to his ring iq as he really figured out the italian's weakness after a couple close rounds and then didn't let him off the hook
- chisora looked good, baker looked like a lumbering idiot. premature stoppage
- the walsh brothers all looked impressive
(pinoy power)
- nonito donaire needs to step up as beating these soft touches is just a waste of time
- penalosa should have got the win
- montiel still looks great despite his set-back last october
- santiago v conception was the best fight of the night

Pacquiao UD.
It's possible he KO's Clottey with bodywork (Roach says Pacquiao has a surprise for us and I reckon it's more effective bodywork - or possibly switch-hitting at points in the fight). Clottey has to cut a lot of weight to make welter so I think his body is probably a bit of a weak spot.
If Pacquiao manages to KO Clottey with headshots I'll be very, very surprised and impressed. Clottey's head is made of stone and he has a very strong, Winky Wright-esque guard.
If you're planning on putting money down though, I'd say backing a Clottey upset would be more worth your while. He probably won't win but he has a much better shot than the odds would suggest.

Clottey is no bum, bar Mosley and Mayweather who have a fight arranged, Clottey is the best welterweight available.
If Clottey did abandon his style and throw more, he would of ate a lot more punches. Clottey was reasonably brave choice for Pacman as he was gonna struggle to stop him and was giving away a lot of weight

Good win by Pacman. Clottey did more or less what it was predicted he'd do.
There's simply no way an immobile peek-a-boo fighter like that can beat a dynamic and relentless attacker like Pacquiao - unless he has the power to keep him honest with the counters, which it seems he didn't.
I also get the feeling Pacquiao didn't show his full hand last night, similar to how Floyd didn't against Marquez.
I still pick Mayweather to beat Pacquiao, but it really could go either way.

If Pacquiao can laugh off Clottey's punches (who was probably over 160lbs come fight night) then there's no way Mayweather stops him.
Mayweather doesn't throw enough combinations anymore, and while his power is sometimes underestimated, I'm confident he's not as strong as either Clottey or Cotto.
He won't be able to set his feet much either, unless he wants to go the way of Clottey.

paul williams is the only opponent you could've possibly made an argument for to deserve the pacquiao fight over clottey - but then pac would've had to lose his march 13th date and dallas venue while williams cut back down to welterweight (and potentially weight drained himself). pacman would brutalise williams too, who isn't much of a thinker and is known to have troubles with southpaws

Always would be. Chambers hasn't the style to trouble Wlad. Might've had more success if that was Vitali in there though.
Im interested if he will change the game plan v Haye, if Haye manages to get inside the Jab.
I'm not sure he can change his game plan. It's been honed and perfectly compliments his physical build and strengths, but I'm not convinced he has many extra gears or dimensions. Haye will give him some more challenging angles than Chambers could provide and his footwork should be a bit of a counter to Wlad's jab. This could leave Wlad vulnerable if he ever misses with one of his straight rights or goes to double up his jab when Haye's not there.
But saying that I still expect him to knock Haye out with a fast straight right at some point before round 8 - Haye's foot movement is decent but his guard and head movement are not up to the task, and Wlad's constant bruising jab will really take the fight out of him.
Also I'm worried Haye will bottle it. If he was that shit scared of a bum like Valuev I can only imagine what he'll be like against someone as dangerous as Wlad.
Haye vs. a Klitschko won't happen for a while though; he sold his soul to the devil with this WBA shit and could be tied up for a long time with bullshit opponents. I'm hearing Valuev rematch and Chagaev/Meehan are likely, and god knows who after that.

The Haye v Valuev was dull, but with a his hand broke there wasnt a huge much more Haye could of done. He showed he has carried the power up to heavy weight with the way he rocked Valuev in the 12th.
Do you think Wlad would land the straight on Haye b4 Hay catches him? I dont by any chance think Haye will win easily, just I think his style will upset Wlad's Rhythm as he wont be infront of him for long enough to be caught. Wlad's chin wasnt saying much in the past. Either way I would be shocked if the fight goes beyond 10 rounds.
Would Haye really continue fighting WBA challengers or would he chase a fight with wlad or Vitali?
If Haye v a Klitschko fight isnt agreed b4 the end of the year then something is wrong. There is no money in all these robotic eastern europeans fighting each other.
Chambers and Chagaev are ahead of Haye in the rings list of heavyweights, I dont know what fights they have been watching to think that
Povetkin is ahead of Haye, and better than the other 2, but I couldnt see him beating Haye either

Do you think Wlad would land the straight on Haye b4 Hay catches him?
Haye's wide hooks leave him wide open for one of Wlad's surprisingly fast right straights. The fact that he loads up so much also means he gives a big counter opportunity after he misses. And Wlad is gonna be setting up his offense with jabs, while Haye probably just dances around and wings in the "haye-makers".
Would Haye really continue fighting WBA challengers or would he chase a fight with wlad or Vitali?
Well you would hope the latter but I'm not convinced. He's too content to just fatten up his wallet and enjoy his minor fame for my liking. When he pulled out of the Vitali fight I really lost a lot of respect for his warrior spirit (the Wlad negotiation break down was pretty lame too.)
There is no money in all these robotic eastern europeans fighting each other.
There is in Germany. And there's money for Haye fighting whoever in Britain. Neither party will starve that's for certain.
Chambers and Chagaev are ahead of Haye in the rings list of heavyweights, I dont know what fights they have been watching to think that
Povetkin is ahead of Haye, and better than the other 2, but I couldnt see him beating Haye either
Haye's heavyweight run thus far has hardly been mindblowing. Chambers beat Sam Peter and Dimitrenko back to back - far more impressive than Haye's run of form. Povetkin is talented and was building momentum nicely around 07/08, but has faultered since due to injury problems. Seems to be next in line for Wlad though. Chagaev - okay, he's done nothing lately.
I think Chambers would have a shot at beating Haye.

will get back to you on the april the 4th. If Haye Ko's ruiz in the middle rounds then I still think Wlad, Vitali or Povetkin are his only fight options and any other fights are just stalling until the those match ups happen
Whilst Haye wont crack America, Im sure he cud have some sort of profile there if he fights an American in the US.
As for Money I dont think Haye is worse than any other fighter out there, the setanta collapse seemed the reason for Haye pulling out v Vitali.
I dont think Haye is a great Heavyweight, I just think the level of the division has dropped hugely, Vitali apart in the last decade.
CHUCK.

Massive night of boxing tonight.
Arthur Abraham v Andre Dirrell (Prime Time PPV I think, only one being televised in Britain)
I'm thinking King Arthur by late KO.
Joan Guzman v Ali Funeka
Joan Guzman weighed in 9 whole pounds overweight which leaves Funeka at a huge disadvantage and secures his status as the unluckiest man in boxing, however I think he's naturally big enough to overcome the disadvantage and beat Guzman (again).
Marcos Rene Maidana v Victor Manuel Cayo
Maidana by KO at some point, although Cayo is no mug.
Yuriorkis Gamboa v Jonathan Victor Barros
Easy win for Yuri.
Erik Morales v Jose Alfaro
Morales should beat this tomato can but you never know, he's shot to fuck so he may look like shit.
Anselmo Moreno v Nehomar Cermeno
Moreno by wide decision. One of the most underrated fighters around right now; reminds me of a small Sweet Pea.
Jorge Linares v Francisco Lorenzo
Linares wins easy and is back on his way to becoming a top pound-for-pound prospect.
and Koki Kameda v Pogsaklek Wonjongkam happened already, with Wonjongkam winning a close decision and surely guaranteeing himself a spot in the IBHoF.
Nkosinathi Joyi beat Raul Garcia fairly easily and looks to be a great prospect (can't wait for him to face off with Roman Gonzalez one day).
Also Matthew Hatton won the welterweight European title last night, and Anthony Small lost to Sam Webb in a close one (I had Small ahead personally).

Dirrell DQ Abraham
Dirrell was boxing masterfully for 9 rounds, Abraham started to come on in the 10th and 11th when Dirrell slipped on some water left in Abraham's corner and Arthur knocked him out cold while he was down from the slip.
Dirrell deserved the win based on what had happened, but as I mentioned, Abraham was starting to get to Andre and a late KO was not out of the question.

Ruiz didnt impress on the undercard when Haye beat the big fucka. Not a massive boxing man, but hes only been knocked down once (which was a next KO).
Haye should knock him out right? May put a biggish bet on the k.o. if a decent price.

If he's as good as he claims to be he should do. Ruiz is a spoiler though and could make the fight ugly and drawn out. He's not called the hugman for nothing.
Haye has been looking chunky apparently, could be overlooking Ruiz.

Even though i agree on the points that the Hatton and De La Hoya Mayweather fought and beat are superior to the Hatton and De La Hoya Pacquiao beat, that's a bit of a bullshit video.
Okay, De La Hoya was weight drained against Pacquiao. He was also fighting three weight divisions above Pacquiao prior to the fight. He dropped one for the fight but Pacquiao still had to climb two. I can't remember the betting odds but I know 17 out of the 20 Ring magazine experts predicted a De La Hoya win.
Hatton's punch resistance was all but gone, but it'd been on the downward slope since the Collazo fight. Pacquiao's acclaim for this fight comes not from the opponent but the performance I think.
Beating Cotto is a fantastic win. I thought it was bullshit the way Pacquiao and co. forced Miguel to put his belt on the line despite fighting at a catch-weight, but I don't think shedding that single pound made much, if any, difference on Cotto's performance. Mayweather should have fought Cotto in early '08.
As for Pacquiao "ducking" Shane Mosley; that fight was never gonna happen with Arum's boy Cotto also being an option. Bob likes to keep things in house. And lest we forget, Cotto did actually beat Mosley.
It's easy to use fighters' and their trainers'/promoters' words against them (shit, I've seen similar videos going at Floyd Mayweather), but as far as I'm concerned that shit is all irrelevent. You'll rarely hear an honest opinion in boxing - 99% of talk is hype talk to sell fights.

Haye looked okay but I think his limitations at heavyweight are starting to show. His work rate was low and he was getting tagged by jabs all night (a bad omen considering Wlad's jab).
I'm now 99% positive that both Klitschkos knock him out.
Didn't catch the Hopkins v Jones Jnr fight yet but I hear it was as shit as expected.
pepsiboycoke
4th April '10, 05:02 PM
Haye never had his guard up, I know he didn't need it, but thats why he got a few jabs on him. He was obviously sure Ruiz couldn't get him properly, but you can be sure that one of the Klitschko's will punish him for being so relaxed.
Another thing he did was he always backed away, even after the knock-downs, Haye never full on attacked, he's always waiting, looking to see his chance and taking occasional shots. I don't think he'd be able to be that patient against the russians.
I don't understand why Haye doesn't try and be aggresive like Tyson, he's got decent power and he's fast for a heavyweight. If he has any chance of beating Vitali or Wlad, he'll need that speed.

the fight was pretty low quality, but entertaining in parts.
The 12th round was sick though. Sprott winning comfortably on points, makes Harrison wobble then catches him with a vicious uppercut. Then out of know where Harrison smashes Sprott with a left hook, when he hasnt used his right for 6 rounds and KO's him.

Those KO losses were a long time ago. Since then Wlad's been putting the work in with Steward and he simply doesn't get tagged like that anymore.
