Braehmer has pulled out of Saturday's fight. Fuck buying that PPV now.
They're trying to line up Bellew as a replacement but he'll likely be too heavy.
Surely its gonna be put on SSP, not PPV.
Was planning on a full night of boxing with the Hopkins V Pascal and Dawson v Diaconu later.
Hopkins odd for a win by decision seem v long at 2.92, got £15 on it.

Check out the fightcamp 360, which are showtimes version as the 24/7 are HBO's.
The Super 6 have a fightcamp 360 before every round which is worth watching if you are interested.
I think they all get left on youtube as they are promotions for the bouts as opposed to anything they would want to keep exclusive.

the plan was to put it on sky box office and i haven't heard any news that they're going to withdraw it.
best to find a pub that's showing it now. if you shell out £15 you'll probably be disappointed. i can see an early stoppage in the degale-groves fight; with both of them being prospects, the ref ain't gonna let them get too busted up. bellew or whoever cleverly faces will be beaten soundly. the gavin fight will be one-sided as well.
i have a feeling hopkins will lose a close decision, but i hope it's not the case.
edit: just heard that erdei may step in for braehmer. that would be a lot better than bellew.

I was gonna split the PPV 5 ways so it wasnt an issue money wise, I assumed the fight had been canned, didnt know they were going to try and find a replacement. Theres a sports bar near me which never shows boxing, so the only other place is a casino.
I make Pascal marginal Favourite, but after the early rounds Hopkins completely outfoxed him and I thought won it on points. If the fight wasnt in Canada and Pascal the champ then he almost certainly would of done. Thought the odds were attractive.
As for DeGale v Groves, I did jump on the Groves bandwagon after the Adamu fight but his defence was truly exposed v Kenny Anderson. DeGale will look the slicker and more rounded fighter and should finish it off in the middle to late rounds. However if Groves catches DeGale I think he is a good enough finisher to push for stoppage.

I think Groves will have problems landing anything of note. He's sloppy and wide open to counter-punches, combine that with DeGale's superior hand speed and timing and it should make for a one-sided fight. I imagine it will be stopped by the ref or corner before Groves hits the deck so I'll go for a TKO 7.
I guess DeGale's chin is a bit of unknown quantity, but I doubt it will be a factor on Saturday. Also, my purely conjectural gut feeling is that DeGale's chin is at least decent. He doesn't have the look of a chinny fighter.

Im not quite sure how much to read into Hopkins winning, as impressive as it was. It was a manual in how to beat a stronger, quicker and more physical opponent; his timing off the right hand was perfect.
Bute and Dawson wont be so easy and Hopkins should scrap this idea of fighting on till he is 50.

Dawson is a mental midget and Bute seems vastly overrated to me (as well as being a super middleweight) so I think Hopkins could well beat one or both of them. Worryingly, though, it looks as though his punch resistance is fading.
He should fight once more then hang 'em up.

Guys, I was at the Hopkins fight last night. It was amazing. Pascal is a hometown boy, but Hopkins won me over in the last fight and he won me over for his entrance last night. He came out with a Balaclava, threatened the guys in the first row, and had a fat guy wearing a Philadelphia Flyers jersey just to piss off the crowd (Bell Centre is where the Montreal Canadiens play, and it's the most historic ice hockey team in the world, so big disrespect there for Hopkins, especially since the Flyers eliminated Montreal last year).
I've been to many UFC events and a few smaller boxing events, but this was the best main event fight I've seen. So happy I went. I just regret not getting floor seats, I would have loved to be closer to the ring

degale did take over towards the end, but he wasn't daring enough to win the fight. i had groves ahead by one round; he out-boxed degale.
i hate to write groves off yet again, but i would fancy degale for the immediate rematch provided he is mentally strong enough to get over this loss, though. he is the superior athlete, the occasion just got to him. groves's training over in america probably did him a world of good too -- british coaching standards are generally quite poor.

Degale seemed far more worried about not losing the fight (getting caught with something big) than he did with stamping his authority on it and winning.
Cant see there being a rematch and I dont think there is much reason to now. As bob Arum would say let it brew for a couple of years and hopefully have one for a world title.
There is talk of Cleverly V Hopkins, which at first seems mad considering how green Cleverly is and how little defence and ring craft he has got. However Cleverly has really grown into a powerful fighter at 175 and if he continues to improve he could take Hopkins in a years time.

I paid about 80$ for my ticket, and I was on the upper deck. It's a 22 000 arena, so it's pretty large. But a boxing ring has a better view than a UFC cage, so it wasn't too bad. The screen in the center of the arena is gigantic, so worst case scenario I looked at the screen.
But if I had known how good the main event was gonna be, I would have bought better seats. Me and my friends were gonna get a table, but then we backed out cause a bunch of guys backed out.
Anyways, it's kind of expensive, but not too bad. I thought it was worth the money more than any of the UFC events I've seen there. Once I paid 250$ per ticket, sat in the upper lower deck, and saw jack shit.

Kessler is such a good fighter, his first fight with Froch was quite close and Froch has improved since then but if they do have a rematch I reckon Kessler will just be to good.
EDIT: that's if Kessler will be the same fighter against a top class fighter.

5th June '11, 12:43 AM
Kessler always looks amazing against B level opposition because they're never quite good enough to really exploit his abject lack of upper-body/head movement; he can just unload his full arsenal on them unchallenged (admittedly his offense is pleasing on the eye when it's in full flow).
Froch would win a rematch.
I got Froch by UD tonight, too. Glen will probably have his moments, though -- he's a lot harder to contain than Abraham, and he's got experience against strong guys like Froch.

I think Froch is heavy handed enough to keep him away from the inside for most of the fight, and tough enough to endure the bad moments. Froch's jab should be the dominant punch in this fight.

Im gonna change my prediction
I think early on Froch will use the jab and catch Johnson with his overhand right when Johnson comes in. Johnson may have a little success early on and catch Froch a couple of times with his right, but take shots coming in.
AS the fight progresses I think the drop in weight and age will really catch up with Johnson and if Froch keeps the tempo up and goes to the body he can Johnson late between 10 to 12

i don't think weight will be that much of a factor
At 42 it cant do him any good moving down. Greene isnt anything like Froch too. Wouldnt be shocked if Johnson had to really boil himself down to make weight.

I had it 115-113 for Froch. Good fight -- Glen would've won if he was two years younger.
If Froch hadn't deluded himself into believing he was the super middleweight Floyd Mayweather and actually fought to his strengths instead of trying to be silky smooth, he would be winning some of these fights more comprehensively.

I think Kell Brooks been unlucky because his ability far exceeds his fame so know one wants to risk getting in the ring with him when he isnt bringing any money to the table. There have been a few issues with weight and Frank Warren too.
Bob Arum was talking about Mike Jones V Brook but then when Jones nearly lost to Soto-Karass, so it got scrapped. He has been ranked number 1 by the WBO for quite a while but Pacman holds the belt so he will never get a shot.

Maybe i'm overrating DeGale, but Pavlik isn't that good, he's a natural MW, and his style i would suit DeGale, it's a massive risk especially straight after the Groves loss but I think DeGale would have a pretty decent chance of beating him.

Pavlik would break him down. He's past his best, but he's still far too dangerous for an 11 fight prospect whose best win was against a smaller, domestic level fighter. DeGale is still a couple years off being ready to fight at world level.

Yep, and he had a t-shirt with him ripping Vitali's head off.

Late 2011, early 2012 I'd estimate. Pointless fight, though. Wlad should be occupying himself with some fresh names to bolster up his record. He probably only has a couple years left at his best, so he should look to clear out what's remaining of the division in that time.

apart from the obvious pac vs. may that division is kinda boring to me right now. i guess i'm interested in what kell brook does.
I want Pirog to take on Martinez
i want to make extra sure he's ready for it first. contenders aren't facing each other enough these days. if he fought golovkin we would see who was really ready and deserving of a shot at sergio. plus it'd be a better fight i think.

Mine would be something like
JMM V Rios
Cotto v Alvarez
Cleverly V Cloud
Kell Brook V any 147 belt holder
Gamboa V John
All credit to Martinez for his recent run of fights v Williams, Cintron and Pavlik but he seems to be cashing in on his fame as opposed to testing himself recently.

All credit to Martinez for his recent run of fights v Williams, Cintron and Pavlik but he seems to be cashing in on his fame as opposed to testing himself recently.
dzinziruk was a decent opponent. to be fair to martinez there's not many options at middleweight right now: chavez jr won't fight him and sturm won't fight him. golovkin, n'jikam and pirog are virtual unknowns who don't bring any money to the table. geale is crap. andy lee is crap. he's too small to move up to 168lbs.
all that leaves is a few junior middleweights like cotto/margarito, alvarez (also probably won't fight him), and now lara. pacman and mayweather too, but i think those are pipe dreams for sergio.
i think the logic behind barker was that he will raise sergio's profile here in england and hopefully get him a sky sports deal for the future. barker was always going to get a title shot at some point, too.
hopefully he goes for one of the three virtual unknowns mentioned above afterwards, but i'd assume the cotto-margarito winner is probably what they're aiming for.
btw, add alvarez vs. angulo to my wishlist.

12th July '11, 07:43 PM
When he fought Dzinziruk it was only because HBO put there foot down and refused a fight v Andy Lee.
Barker was on the path for a title shot but he fought once in 2010 and looked a little better than average and once in 2011 where he tired and just beat another mid level European fighter. He doesnt deserve a shot and is obviously still ring rusty after his injury. The fight could be a massacre and there is a chance that it ruins Barker as a fighter.
Its not all Martinez's fault, it was just he went from arguably the toughest run in boxing to one of the weaker runs. At his age im not sure there is much time left so every fight v someone 2 classes below him feels like a waste.

12 Rounds Lightweight
John Murray v Kevin Mitchell
WBO super-featherweight title
Ricky Burns v Nicky Cook
British Light-Heavyweight Title
Tony Bellew v Ovill McKenzie
12x3 Welterweight
Frankie Gavin v Curtis Woodhouse
Woodhouse and Cook shouldnt cause too many problems. The other 2 could really get going. Would be good to see Mitchell back and something like his best, but all the stories around him havent seemed like he is that committed.

It's not sportsman like, but after you've just been head-butted, you're going to take a free hit at your opponent if they give you one.
Shows what Mayweather vaules tbh. An undefeated record is great, but some people want a legacy to go with it. This tarnishes whatever Mayweather has left when he stops boxing.

nah, martinez hurt him in the 10th, but he held on, then in the 11th martinez hit him with a couple of shots but none of them really connected fully, but one hit him in the ear and barker went down, and after the ref sent martinez too his corner he started counting from 6, which meant barker was in a rush to get back up and he stumbled badly and didn't beat the count

it was an accumulative stoppage. the punch that ended it was quite weak, barker may have been looking for a way out. i want to see him fight macklin next, i think he'd win.
in other news: nishioka beat r. marquez; andy lee avenged his loss against vera; cunningham was robbed in germany versus hernandez; grzegorz proska looks like a great prospect, he dominated sylvester.

cleverly should beat bellew with ease -- it's a joke that bellew even got a title shot in the first place. i think warren is acutely aware of clev's limitations and will wrap him in cotton wool like he does ricky burns. if hopkins looks bad tonight then i can see them going for him next.

and as long as cleverly dont drop his guard too much as he likes to then i dont think bellew will be able to land a solid enough shot on him to drop him and i dont think he has the stamina to win on points.

i think it was kind of a haye/klitschko scenario in that the backlash was worse because of how much he promised prior to the fight. still though, it was a close fight that could have easily been scored either way. his fight tonight is actually tougher than cleverly's, though i still expect him to win. be interesting to see whether his confidence has been dented by the groves loss.
