frank warren's magnificent seven tonight on sky box office. pissed that barker and rhodes dropped out but brook v jennings, chisora v sexton and cleverly v murat are all good fights and hall is a decent replacement for rhodes.

also a good american card on later with mora v mosley, alvarez v baldomir, de leon v escalante and ortiz v harris.

In other news Amir Khan is getting in the ring again with someone who could KO him since Prescott. Over the last year I have slowly been convinced that Khan maybe quite good and possibly clear out light welter. However part of me still thinks when he gets caught he may look like the flailing arm fighter he used to be and his Glass Jaw will get smashed.

Khan v Marcos Maidana is set for December the 11th.

I expect Khan to coast to victory tbh. Maidana is a dangerous puncher but he's too rough around the edges and one paced to catch Khan, imo. Khan will be moving every second of every round; expect it to look a lot like the Kotelnik fight except Maidana's lack of defense may lead him to get TKO'd in the late rounds. I also suspect Khan is slightly less fragile at 140lbs so it may take a combination or sustained attack to floor him rather than a single punch like it did back at lightweight.

seems like a strange match up. off the top i can't think of one example of two top prospects fighting each other when they've had less than ten fights each. i'm not opposed to the fight but i'm not holding my breath waiting for it to happen; this rivalry is probably just being milked for promotion purposes right now. i'm guessing that if they do ever meet they'll both have had around 20 fights by that point.

i'd like to see cleverly face glen johnson either before or directly after braehmer. i think glen could really take him into deep water and maybe take him out late, but if cleverly won and looked good it would legitimise him at world level for me.

Im not sure Glen Johnson could live with Cleverly, not now anyway. The Light heavy is shaping into a more interesting division now its not full of old middleweights seeing out their career.

I eventually watched Pascal V Dawson a month ago. Deserved win for Pascal but it reminded of the Taylor V Hopkins fights in the sense you know Dawson is the better fighter, but for some reason he was coasting rounds and struggling a little against Pascals style.

Montiel just had a motorcycle accident so that fight ain't happening until at least mid 2011. Good fight but Donaire has been coasting for so long it'll take more than just the one fight to justify his hype.

Personally I'd like to see Donaire fight Hasegawa at some point. They can meet at super bantam or a catchweight somewhere thereabouts.

I don't think I've ever seen a Ring magazine being sold in England. The only one I've ever bought was Boxing Monthly I think.

v klitschko retained his wbc heavyweight belt (no surprise there) against shannon briggs via unanimous decision. klitschko couldnt knock briggs down tho and to briggs credit he ate sum fuckin bangers (was on the ropes in the 7th n got saved by the bell) briggs didnt even win a round.

Even the Valuev win was "meh". Valuev is one of the worst heavyweight title holders of all time after all. Just a freak with no boxing ability. Wlad has the far better record and he's also the superior boxer. He just lacks toughness which leaves him occasionally vulnerable, and Vitali happens to excel in that area hence Vitali having to avenge a few of Wlad's losses on his behalf.

As it stands I say Wlad is a sure fire hall of famer and top 15 heavyweight of all time, Vitali will probably just about scrape into the hall of fame by virtue of being Wlad's brother.

Jones was amazing but I wouldn't really laud his technique and workrate as his prime assets; he was more about god-given athletic ability.

James Toney has amazing technique but was out of shape at cruiserweight, still you should see his fight with Jirov (Jirov actually being a really good archetypal volume puncher) as it's a classic. In fact you should try and watch as many of Toney's fights as you can get your hands on, especially Barkley, McCallum (1 & 2) and Nunn.

Struggling to think of many light heavy/cruiserweight volume punchers. Holyfield was pretty busy in his day - check out his fight against Qawi.

He's only a junior welterweight but Aaron Pryor is probably a perfect example of workrate + technique.

Gonna watch the Marquez-Lopez and Green-Johnson fights a bit later. The Rees fight was a good watch.

That training stuff is bullshit. It's just Top Rank trying to trick everyone into believing the fight will be more competetive. The fact that they had to resort to those kind of promotional tactics should be all you need to know about how one-sided this fight is actually gonna be.

Groves has a weird cross between Froch and Haye style of fighting. DeGale's power in general has surprised me - remember how worried everyone was that he'd be a feather-fisted slapper when he first turned pro? Now he's getting proper leverage on his punches and throwing with really good form. I think he's much more refined than Groves, who doesn't seem to have improved much since he turned pro at all. DeGale should be able to exploit his looping punches and shitty defense and TKO him.

He thought Kenneth Anderson who is 12 from 12 and it descended into a brawl in the 3rd and Groves went down. He was shocked but not badly hurt but the rest of the 3rd and the 4th they traded blows and Anderson looked like he might get the stoppage.

The 5th was mainly Groves as he avoided brawling and thought smarter, then in the 6th he got the TKO victory.

On the top rank card Mike Jones, who Bob Arum wants to take to England to fight Kell Brook fought Jesus Soto Karass. The fight was action packed and one of the best fights I have seen this year.

In the 2nd Jones rocked Karass and spent basically a full minute windmilling Karass without any technical or tactical thought and didnt even drop him. From the 3rd onwards Jones was gassed and Karass walked him down all night digging shots into his ribs.

Jones had a few nice hooks but it was a terrible performance which he won on points from some dodgy judging.

I think Martinez should be able to get the win this time. I don't think it will be as explosive as the first fight as neither of them will want a repeat of last time where they each were hurt at points, which should play into Martinez's hands. The only reason I'm not 100% confident on a Martinez win is the rumour that he struggled to make weight; he was apparently over 180lbs before he started training and there is a catchweight of 158lbs this time so he'll have to cut even more weight than usual. Plus he's a pretty old guy already, which is easy to forget because he only really blew up in the past couple years.

He looked okay but shopworn and old. He gassed in the championship rounds and his punches didn't have that old snap to them. If he can't hurt Katsidis he's in trouble, and if he tires after round eight he's fucked.

Katsidis has improved since he lost to Diaz, he has a bit of a Tyson-esque bob and weave thing going on now and he's obviously tough as nails and will bring a level of intensity that may be too much for a 37 year old man to handle.

Gun to my head I'm still going Marquez (decision) but I might put a bit down on Kats by late stoppage.

If Froch can punch through Abraham's guard like he did Kessler's things will get interesting, but if he can't then his only chance is to get the first half of the fight in the bank and then just do his best to survive the second half.

Abraham doesn't seem to like it to the body but Froch being the taller fighter (with painfully slow reflexes) means a sustained body assault would probably see him countered, as Abraham's deceptively fast when he throws straight punches.

In my mind, for Froch to win he'll need to fight at the end of his jab, push Abraham back and fight from the center of the ring for the first half, and then move onto the back foot once Abraham starts coming on - and CLINCH when he finds himself on the ropes.
