We conceded less in qualifying than England bro, 4 goals in our 10 qualifying games bro you conceded 5 in your 8. The English media has made our defence out to be alot worse than it actually is tbh, not having M'Vila isn't ideal but Diarra should cover well enough.

Lol, I was just been silly really, don't watch that
But seriously, if they do get the service, I can see them posing a few problems. If Gerrard can roll back the years and if Milner (he can deliver) and AOC (young I know, but has huge potential) start on the wings, we could be able to provide some good service to them. You're either a very pessimistic guy or very realistic lol. I'm sure it's more about getting service to Welbeck.

How does everyone expect England to line up? I expect a 4-4-1-1 obviously Front 6:
---------Welbeck
--AOC----Young----Milner
------Parker----Gerrard
Same as vs Belgium. Depending on who's playing at LAM for France, I would start Walcott or AOC and just try to hit them on the counter attack but I think Hodgson will go defensive. Not sure how good Walcott is on the left anyway.

Why no Ben Arfa?
Firstly Malouda looked very good in pre-tournament friendlies, and has earned his place.
Secondly Blanc has built his squad around a solid starting 11 which he likes to field when possible, I personally think this has positives and negatives.
Positive being our starting 11 know eachother very well and as a result link up fantastically.
Negatives being players like Mexes haven't been up to scratch lately and players who have looked better, like Koscielny, aren't getting a starting place.
Just hope Mexes has a good game man.

Player for player, I think it's very close and would argue that England may even have the edge over us.
However you play so negatively and can't string so much as 5 passes together.
The lack of chances you created in your friendlies is worrying, particularly considering the caliber of teams you played against.
The only positive to come from them friendlies was that you kept two clean sheets, leading to a belief you have a solid defence, really though Norway were atrocious in the final 1/3 and Belgium played 80mins without a striker, so imo you haven't had a real test.

Fair enough. Like I said to Klozzle above I wouldn't really be scared if I saw Malouda in the line up. I think whether he plays centrally or on the right he'll be handled accordingly by either Parker or Cole.

I know Woy is going to get shook and play Gerrard in a defensive role when we are clearly lacking attacking flair
We need someone who can supply the frontline...Young in the hole...Gerrard cutting in...Walcott vs Evra as well should be alright considering what we are working with

Milner on the wing??? Gerrard is no good playing that deep. he's better off playing behind the striker at CF / AM imo.
would prefer this:
_______Welbeck
Young___Gerrard__AOC
_____Milner___Parker
> Milner can sling long balls down the wing to Young
> Young can cut in on his right and go for goal
> AOC partner with gerrard and pull players out of position and feed balls to Welbeck /Carroll
> Parker being Parker

Putting Milner on the wing will help Johnson with Ribery and Evra Everybody knows he'll need it. Young can still go for goal when he plays behind the striker. He also links up with Welbeck, a lot better than Gerrard would.
Gerrard is also way too slow considering we should be playing on the counterattac. Young/Welbeck/AOC or Walcott have the pace to hit on the counter.

remember england beat spain with -
Hart
Johnson Jones Lescott Jagielka Cole
Walcott Parker Lampard Milner
Bent
so to completly write us of would be fucking idiotic, we have a team full of players more than capable, Hart is one of the best keepers in the world atm, Ashley Cole proved in Munich that he can lock down world class wingers like Ribery and Robben and destroy supply. Terry and Lescott were both pivotal players for Champions League and Premier league winners, Johnsons a mug.
Parker has proved in the last few seasons no matter what team hes in he can player the anchorman role and take players out the game. Milner is a lively player, can play across the park and put in splitting passes. Young is a pacey winger who can cause mayhem in any defence. Steven Gerrard knows he has to preform and has pulled it out the bag before att big tourneys/games. Danny Welbeck proved the other day and throughout the season that when given a chance he is a great young striker with cracking pace and flair that only comes with youth.
Just because it's england dont write us off, the press haven't been giving it the biggun about how this is our year and all that shit, infact they've done the opposite so Roy and the lads are going out there with something to prove. some guys it could be there last chance and will want to prove to the world they aint flops and others want to prove that they aint just talked about talents.
Milner will be our player of the tourney.

Yo bro your one of them guys who gets proper keen over England in the summer, good luck to you, I wasn't sending for you so there was no real need to take offence, was it the use of the word fat? I just think its ridiculous that people who claim to support England, barrack the players who are called up to play- whether some scousers support England at all is a different issue, at least they are straight about it, not the sort of cunts who will boo Downing if he comes on.

IMO, Nationality should be a concrete fact and something which cannot be picked and choosed.*
You are only born once, in one place, that is something you cannot change so that should be your nationality. People fight over all these things like nationality, ethnicity and various other things which make up their own identities and sense of self but if everyone just accepted that they can't change any of these things then imo there would be less trouble.

I disagree with you, but your point is fair enough.
Unfortunately I feel there would be trouble with the child of English parents who was born in Malaysia because their parents were working out there at the time. Why can't they have the same nationality as their parents, if they feel that they have no ties to Malaysia and were there for only the first 6 months of their life?
That's just one example where your system would be particularly unfair on someone.

This is spot on tbh. I have dual nationality, two passports etc, I'm the first English born person in my immediate family. For the record I consider myself English broadly (though am not really big on nationalism), but know people in the same situation who don't and that's there prerogative.

Haha, well, we could have corner flag Walcott running in a straight line then clocking he lost the ball 3 minutes before, Jordan Henderson passing 3 yards and making runs without looking and falling over for no reason and the prolific international striker Danny Welbeck playing.

Never rated Carroll, even when he was at Newcastle.
He had a good first half to the season (at Newcastle this is), none of his work was special though and he certainly didn't warrant spending £35m on that's for sure.
He's not shit, but if we're really gonna do this on form, Grant Holt is a similar kinda player and he had a much stronger season, why not take him?
If Stewart Downing or Carroll are anywhere near that first 11, something is wrong. That's no hate on Liverpool, I just think based on this season, they shouldn't be in that squad.

he's mediocre at the very very best the guy is terrible 99% of the time ive seen him play. i watched him heavily throughout my whole time in jail and before that too, he plays bare deep, especially when liverpool are on the defence n he's the only man at the halfway line, he gets it n he's just got nothing to his game whatsoever. he has a decent header that's all nothing else so so shit cant express my dislike for this guy if he was any other nationality mans would air him out. fuck the media. would rather have walcott/defoe/crouch/holt/bent upfront come at me bros

I predict two banks of four and ceding of possession .
My question answered by your favourite Guardian journalist.
quality87 asks: Is there any suggestion whatsoever that Roy Hodgson will employ any sort of tactical flexibility at this tournament, or should we expect two rigid banks of four and surrendering the ball continually? Also are Downing and Milner certs to start versus France? Danny responds:
Everything so far has been geared towards a fairly rigid 4-4-2. Personally, I think it's a bit outdated and can be found out against top opposition. Gary Neville is also on record, before joining the coaching staff, saying it's too inflexible but, after a month of working on it, I can't imagine they will suddenly change.
For what it's worth, I'd rather go 4-2-3-1 - but Hodgson has always liked centre-forward partnerships and I'd be surprised if it changed now even when Rooney is back. I'd imagine Young will revert to the left and Rooney would play behind Welbeck, though it looks like Oxlade-Chamberlain now has the chance to establish himself on the left.

And M.O.G. is right, for all the hilarity, if you actually watched our last 10 games, Carroll was the man of the match in at least 4 of them. He was every bit the player we hoped we would see for the whole season. Why is it so hard to accept that players can play themselves into form?

"bullying defences like dey were nothing" loooooooooooooooool
To name just one match, there was Chelsea at Anfield who admittedly fielded a weakened team, but he took the piss out of John Terry with a couple of nutmegs, out muscled a lot of their defenders, looked sharp, and Michael Essien had to resort to jumping at him from behind with his studs up to stop an attack. To name one.

Yeah, Daniel/Danny Taylor.
Tbf, even if I don't find it entertaining at all, I will be impressed if he gets anything out of a Gerrard/Parker midfield and Terry on the right hand side of the defense next to Johnson. For me, there's only two positions that look really solid (Hart and Cole).

Why is Terry on the right hand side of defence, isn't that where he played against Germany? :-D. To be fair to Hodgson, unlike with us, I think maybe his tactics will be more effective for England than they were for Liverpool. But I think Welbeck might actually be a better choice because quite often there is no-one there for Carroll to win the ball for, and in the second half against Norway he had 20 yards of space around him at times and the ball was hit long to the left touchline and he's in the middle of the pitch like wtf. Welbeck at least has pace and can join Young in a foray if we get the ball off them at any point.

Nah I can't edit the vBookie. Weird. I think only the thread creator can. But then Messiah managed to close betting the other day?
:dozey:
2nd game. Comes off the bench against Chelsea in the FA Cup final. Scores an awesome goal after out powering the defence, wins loads of balls in the air and absolutely everything is sticking to him. Tees Gerrard up for several out of the box chances (but Gerrard skys them) and then after a Suarez dink powers a header towards goal which requires Cech to pull off an awesome save. Carroll, the guy laughed at all season coming so close to almost being a Steven Gerrard type of saviour for Liverpool. Managed to be the man of the match for Liverpool playing less than a third of the game.
Seeing as MOG mentioned 10 games, how many did you all watch? I'm convinced some of you don't actually watch football beyond Match of the Day and formulating your opinion based on your peers opinions.
I'm as biased as they come, but he's 23, and ever since the dive at Newcastle and getting booed off he was our best player for the rest of the season. I know that doesn't count for much as we were pretty awful but I feel he earned his call up in the last few games.
