Ive not been back to the gym in 3/4 months now and my plan to begin kettlebell training fell flat on its face.
So Im looking at joining a gym near to work so that I can go on my lunch breaks. Only thing is, all of the gyms near enough are £35 plus a month and that's for off peak. Just wanted to see what other people are paying at their gyms currently and what you get for that?

£75 for the whole year at uni, though its busy if you go after 4 and the free weights room is always full of people so it can make keeping to a schedule difficult
£20 a month when im back home, thats with free personal training and classes aswell

I pay £30 a month it's £3.50 (daily) before 5 o clock, £5 after 5. It's a proper old school gym quite big. Just down the road is Doug Ellis Sports Centre, i was considering joining cos it's full of Uni bishes i did notice quite alot of skinny asians in there too though  that's £25 a month iirc, they only had one bench when i last went

I am moving down lo London from Japan around May, so looking for a gym. Any recommendations for a hardcore gym? Probably moving to North or East London.
Any advice is appreciated.
Every gym I have used in the North East of England lets you pay as you go. Must be a North East thing.

Lol I don't get why people go to them fucked up hood gyms own by an ex boxer or ex weight lifter and they pay like 40+ a month where as they could just go with a membership with the local leisure centre which is cheaper and has more facilities.

I pay 25 a month for my gym. Got everything I need, as well as guys who've competed at a high level for assistance and advice. Not that I'd pay extra for that obviously, but it's good to have there.

weight lifting gyms have better weight lifting equipment
leisure centre is more of a fitness place
it depends on your goals surely

£25 a month. 'Student' deal. Well Im not really a proper student.
Anyways, I get Gym and Swimming pool. Any time 0700-2200, brand new places too so its got decent kit. Bare machines what i aint never seen in my life time. Also get all the classes.
Also get a personal trainer style thing, sorta. They do a fitness plan with u, then do 1 personal trainer style session. Then u get 2 personal trainer sessions a month.
Plus its like 2 minutes down the road.
Got a gym group gym opening soon, only £16 a month, 24hrs too. Tempted to join but the locations shit for parking.

Dont think it would be profitable tbh. Unless you get loads of people like wm7 paying £60 a month and not using it, your not going to make money considering the amount it would cost for equipment, rent, wages, advertising, etc.

This, goto Virgin gyms and youre sharing 10 dumbells with 30 guys its fucking stupid lol. I used to goto a gym years ago owned by an ex bodybuilder who used to do competitions etc. and it was sick, it was like 3 gyms in one. One building was a cardio area with the treadmills etc. the other building was a fitness area with the machines and light weights and the other building was the free weights and heavy machines so you had room to do whatever you want wthout waiting.

done a little business model with my mate who works at Barclays, it would be VERY hard to make good money, there is only money in chains tbh

this tbh. only signed up to my gym because its a chain, if it was independant i defffooo wouldnt pay 60squids.
used to go to a leisure centre, but the changing rooms stink, the saunas full of dirty old people who wanna shave and exfolliate. YUK

I think if you were a well-known sportsperson and you opened a chain of gyms you could cake it.

you're backing him up cause you spend £60 a month for a gym you probs only go to a couple times a week
if there was an independant gym a couple streets away that offered the same quality of services as your current one you wouldn't go there? lol
Willy
26th February '12, 06:15 PM
£2 per day, can use it more then once in that same day though
like i pay £2 in the morning, i can go for an hour in the morning and come back again during the afternoon/evening as many times as i want without having to pay again
even though it's a bit pointless because i can do everything in 1 session
i can get free membership for PureGym in Wolverhampton but it's a bit far for me and PureGym is shit
