Had a back injury at Rugby (whiplash) and was told I couldn't/shouldn't play for a year, then never went back and lost motivation. Have lost alot of the muscle I had and put on about a stone.
Whats a decent regime to do to loose the excess weight, and regain muscle. This is considering im fucking unfit. Have got a rough idea but was wondering if anyone else has a routine they've used.
I got an induction tomorrow but it will probably be with some skinny student faggot who will say run on the running machine for 1 hr a day or something like that.
Was looking to do about 40 minutes of cardio, then 20/30 minutes weights a session, as its what I did when I played rugby. Although I was fitter and shit back then.
Would it also be sensible to focus on specific areas (upper body/lower body) per session and go more flat out? Or just do a general work around on all muscle groups?

you could do stronglifts/ripptoes for a bit, muscle memory should kick in and you could probably get back to a decent level of strength quickly
+ the more muscle you have the more calories you burn doing nothing so definitely hit weights along with cardio
i dont actually know anything about cardio (i'm skinny) so can't help you there

You're not meant to do cardio and weights on the same day, slows down recovery
only do cardio for a warm up tbh

Everyone was saying do cardio on your days off from weights
makes sense to me, if you spend 30 minutes doing cardio, will you have energy left to do a good long weights session??
i know i won't me on top form if i did 30 minutes cardio and then hit the weights, since then i've been doing a 10 minute warm up and then straight onto weights, don't do cardio on my days of any more either

Why dont you diet first and then start rebuilding your muscle?
It will be much easier that way I reckon. Have a couple of months just losing the weight, then start at the gym to rebuild your muscle. That way you can see the results better and might motivate you more.

The gas part is that it slows down recovery. In terms of energy i agree doing cardio just before weights will decrease it.
I try to do cardio completely separately from weights anyway, morning cardio session and then evening gym session. Although recently i been slacking and have just done a small 25 minute cardio session after weights every other day.

Yeah like burden said if you wanna do it on the same day just make sure it's after your weight session so you dont lose intensity when lifting because you've gassed on the cardio.
And I agree with NE63 with losing the fat first then buildin the muscle if you've got a bit of it and also if you don't have the discipline to diet hard when cutting, that's the biggest problem with it, for me anyway cos I'm used to carbs with every meal lol. If you're happy eating meat and veg then you shouldn't have a problem tbh.

My motivation to join the gym and use that as the catalyst to loose weight outweighs that of dieting tbh. When im at work it aint easy to grab stuff overly healthy at lunch, normally a supermarket meal deal or summin
