Started the Ripptoe starting strength programme today. Started out by choosing workout a.

25kg: 3x5 Squat
25kg: 3x5 Bench Press
25kg:1x5 Deadlift

Want to first make sure im doing the lifts the right way that's why im not lifting heavy will start doing that in a week or so. All of my lifts went good deadlift and bench press was a piss easy however squats were more difficult then i thought they would be.

25kg deadlift lol

if you're bench pressing 25kg comfortably, surely you can deadlift at least double that

Still, hardly a deadlift if you're completing sets with the same weight on the bench press

but yh, it's ok if you're starting

My plan next week is to do doubble the weights im currently doing now. I would have more than doubble the weights if i didn't stop training

for your muscles to grow they need to be stimulated, they need to be put under stress that they are not used to and not comfortable with... FACT

squatting 25k is pointless lol

you need to be pushing yourself....

and I'm not an expert bro, just spent more time researching and carrying out things... welcome advice

They way you come across itt seems like you Know-it-all. As i have stated before i've only started i need to get right technique first then ill start adding more weights. One little mistake and i can possibly fuck up my back for life real talk llow being a teen and having a back of a 80 year old. My gym is pretty limited also we have only got 5kg+ plates i also do all of this myself thats why im careful.

all well and good but your achieving next to nothing, your maintaining what you have.. if that

if you want to check form just watch dvds and watch yourself in a mirror...

keep at it, keep the weights going up, do what your doing 3-4 times a week for a few months and you will see a difference.. then you should move on to separating body parts or encompassing your whole body at lease

Wait... 25 kg squat, is that with or without the bar?

When I first started dead lifting, 40kg, done about 15 reps with perfect form. Threw on 60 kg and even though I could easily lift the weight for more than 10 reps, my form was no where near as good. So 60 kg was the weight for me to learn the form on.
You still need challenging weight to learn the form, watch when you throw on a heavier plate onto the bar and all your form is gonna be gone in a second but you will still be able to move the weight, high reps with almost an empty bar is not gonna do it.

My form on my max lifts isn't perfect. But it's important to always try and improve form.

Part of it for me is lack of flexibility in my hips, but I'm going to start bringing the weight down to mid-shin rather than the floor which should help keep a straight back.

I fell off harder, havn't been for 10 weeks. Already starting to get a gut (the problem with not changing my eating when not training).

Ive quit the gym, now looking to start kettlebell work and squats with deads once a week.

For me my deads gave me more gains than any other exercise, everyones different though. I found I got thicker overall when I was doings deads.

Even though dead lifts fuck me up for a few days after but I really hate doing squats always gives me a bloody headache and head rush and it KILLS!

Never really had a chance to do proper squats as my current gym lacks a rack. Only there a week or so more though, then on to a gym which caters almost exclusively to meatheads and competitive bodybuilders. The noise of proper metal plates being pushed together>>>>>>>>>

I've been enjoying my deadlifts recently. I think it's because the weight keeps going up so I'm motivated to do them.

No calf raises?

Mine's fairly similar to yours, although we tend to go really heavy on leg press to sub for squats until we move. Add in calf raises and take out the deads. That's my routine.

I do calfs before shoulders its much better than doing them with legs, i used to do them with legs but do them on a different day. try it.

but yeah always volume train with legs with reasonable weight of course lol >>>>

I volume train most of the time. When I'm pushing 400kg on leg press I can only get 5 though. Yep, I'm that cunt who takes all the plates in the gym. There's only three of us who ever need more than two twenty plates for any exercise anyway. :dozey:

Monday: Triceps and chest
Tuesday: Legs and back
Wednesday: Biceps and shoulders

For those of you who don't know, Arnie was a competitive powerlifter before switching to body building. I guess it's dependant on what you're trying to achieve. Personally I train Stronglifts 5x5 as compound lifts build functional strength and your body progress as a steady rate all over rather than having a strong upper and chicken legs.

If I bring the bar halfway down when i struggle will that still work my chest or do more for my tri's?

ur chest is mainly used in the bottom portion of the lift unfortunately

from about just over half way to lockout, it's nearly all tricep.

if u cant complete a full rep i'd either not do it or lower the weight tbh

People posting pictures of fat powerlifters are ignorant. Just because they ignored their calorie intake to ensure protein, doesn't mean Flak is going to. Besides, Arnold was a powerlifter first and trained by Reg Park.

Park was that built before steroids were invented, just by training with compound lifts.

Maybe there was some substance abuse but as a power lifter you still need the strength to lift heavy things.
