What Defines Grime?

I post up beats on here and see others do the same and for whatever reason be it drums or bass etc people say it isnt grime.

So what is?

Can you tell me if you think its grime or not and why.

I always thought if it was 140, had a clap and strings it was pretty much grime

lol you should listen to more grime mixes. find some mixes from spyro, logan, spooky, vectra and jj and you will see that what you just said is very untrue.

There isnt a definition as such because the sound constantly changes but listen to some mixes and you will get a better grasp.

the drums on that aint 140, their 70. Also the clap is a crunk one rather than a grimey one. D'explicits got grimey claps for example

140 is just 70 sped up.

just build tunes don't define them! I think a lot of my beats end up straddling that fine line in between dubstep and grime (140 tempo!) - you can draw influences from anything really

i used to make grime at 70bpm sometimes, thats what i made jezebel at.

These days Grime is more complicated it seems to be based around samples, strings, synths, horns etc, n not much about the bass.

But grime back in the day was mostly centred around the grimey bass, n that is what carried most grime tunes.

Your making your drum patterns at half pace, so it may be at 140 but like someone else said itll really be around 70

Their the same speed your just manipulating percusion half or double time LOL.

Also I'm not sure what a "Grimey clap" is?? as last time a looked in fruity and other programs most of the soundsets came from HipHop anyway..

I don't think Grime is wide enough to be a genre yet..

In it's current setting it just sounds like "Wiley's style" = Grime

Gangsters was a half time Hip Hop track ,but because it's Wiley it's classed as Grime lol

P's and q's is also a blattent Swiz Beats/Timbaland Hip Hop beat..it's just that it was broken through the Grime scene so we claim it as that.
